History

Dr. Laura Koehler started the process of opening Signature Eye Center while still a student! In 2007, she met with a real estate agent and a contractor, and had a bank lined up to fund the project the moment she had graduated and received her license to practice! Signature Eye Center officially opened on November 14th, 2008, after a short delay due to damages to the building from Hurricane Ike. Our original location on Gulf Freeway served us so well for 10 years, but we were BURSTING at the seams around year 6! It was during that time that Dr. Koehler started making plans for the new clinic. With a purchase of 5.5 acres of land just 2 miles away down FM 646 and the same great contractor, she began construction on the dream! Once in the new building, we finally had room to expand and went on the search for our second physician to join our family. Dr. Misty Gawelek answered the call, and we are so glad she did! She joined our team in 2020, and has grown her patient base exponentially! Now with two physicians and a full house of opticians, insurance coordinators, and medical techs, we are the premier eye care center in the area! We are voted #1 every year by Daily News readers, and our returning patients continue to bless us with their business, and their referrals!
